Gaspard Proust, a Great Comic Discovery

An old friend of mine who’s lived in Paris for many years and knows my penchant for smart comedy, suggested I watch Gaspard Proust.. and what an amazing discovery it was.. I just watched his most recent one man show “Dernier Spectacle” and found it unbelievably smart and rather shocking by French standards where freedom of speech is not as a sacrosanct as it is in the US. For instance, a law like “La Loi Gayssot” would be impossible to enact in the US. I tend to like brave comics in the “equal opportunity offenders” tradition like Dave Chappelle and Bill Maher. Good Comedy is supposed to shock us and make us laugh while feeling some discomfort. And tonight I feel like I had a great watching a comic I never heard of until a couple of days ago.
